This last month has been conference central for me.
First, I had the opportunity both to plan and present at the Nevada Professional Coaches Association’s first state conference. From there I went straight into the International Coach Federation’s global conference. Last week I attended the American Society for Training and Development’s Chapter Leaders conference. And Friday, I’ll be starting Marie Forleo’s Rich, Happy & Hot Live.
There are so many glorious things about conferences-breathtaking keynotes, the opportunity to connect with fabulous people, 2-3 meals prepared for you each day, great Twitter chats…
One of the quotes that I’ve been sitting with since the ICF conference is from Sir Ken Robinson, an expert at the intersections of education, creativity and innovation. Sir Ken is quite a funny bugger (as I think he would say), but he nevertheless does not stutter when he articulates his belief that “We are systematically wasting human potential. We are depleting our human resources.”
Grounding his assertion in disappointing statistics (e.g., 1/31 American adults is in the criminal justice system and suicide is the second leading cause of death for 15-24 year olds), Sir Robinson also posits, “If we create the world’s problems with our imaginations, we can solve the world’s problem with our imaginations.”
And one of the easiest ways for us to begin the necessary process of global transformation is to let ourselves bump into others.
To ask questions from genuine curiosity rather than always opening our mouths to tell others what to do.
To let go of our sense of entitlement (yes, this is as directed to Traditionalists, Baby Boomers and Xers as it is to Millennials/Gen-Y’s) and work with what is and what can be.
To turn to the person in our arm pit during rush hour on public transportation and… smile.
To tell the people we love, “I love you.”
To turn to the people who severed our love, “I forgive you.”
To show up to our workplaces connected to our vision and mission rather than simply checking items off a to-do list.
To focus on being of service rather than looking for how we can be served.
How are you allowing yourself to bump into the people around you? Most importantly, how are you bumping into your own talents and leveraging them to build a better world?
For when we stop connecting to our values, our strengths, our resources, and our opportunities, we play small in our lives. And as a result, we play small in the world.

As I shared last week, I’m serious about helping you close the final quarter of the year with a bang rather than a whimper. I’m looking for the top 5 people ready to do some big, bold bumping to stretch themselves into greater success, social impact and life satisfaction.
As Kim Rocke, one of my August UNLIMITED COACHEES shared, as a result of her participation she quadrupled her sales. ”If you are willing and open to finding the truth about yourself, Alexia can guide you to being everything you want to be, just like she did for ME!“ (Read full testimonial and UNLIMITED NOVEMBER COACHING details HERE.)
To schedule your 15-minute interview to see if we are a good fit for one another, email me a short paragraph explaining why you are hungry for and deserving of 1 of the 5 spots as well as your availability on Tuesday, October 25th-Wednesday, October 26th from 8AM-4PM PT each day.
“We can recreate the world we live in if we choose to.” (Sir Ken Robinson)
